Gift PolicyThe Library accepts gifts of material or money for the purchase of material, programs and services by individuals, groups, foundations, corporations, etc. These gifts must meet standard professional selection criteria. Gifts containing stipulations that deny or abridge equal access to Library resources will not be accepted. MaterialsLibrary staff will evaluate donated material using guidelines set forth in the Materials Selection Policy. Any item not added to the collection will be discarded. Groups or collections of material cannot necessarily be kept together in a designated area. The Library cannot appraise gifts for income tax or any other purposes. Directed DonationsThe Library accepts donations of money for the purchase of material to honor community residents and others. Material will be acquired by the Library staff using guidelines set forth in the Materials Selection Policy. Bookplates are affixed to material purchased with money donated for this purpose. Endowed Gift FundsThe Gift Committee of the Library Board is composed of the Vice President, Treasurer and one other member appointed by the President. The Committee is chaired by the Treasurer. Their duties are:
The Board may authorize expenditure of the balance of any Gift Fund, without regard to restrictions when it has been reduced to a level of $500 or less. The Board may remove all restrictions from a specific Gift Fund when, as a result of restriction, there has been no expenditure from such Fund for at least two (2) years, and the Board, by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the entire Board, decides that the restrictions do not reasonably provide a benefit for the Library. The treasurer will report quarterly to the Board on the status of the Gift Fund accounts. The Director will keep a separate record or receipts, expenditures and disposition of all Gift Funds. Gifts restricted as to principal will be accepted in amounts of $5,000 or more. April 2003 |
