Wi-Fi Zone Guidelines

The Scarsdale Public Library is pleased to offer free wireless Internet access to patrons with wireless-enabled devices. Our Wi–Fi Zone has been designed to support a wide-range of 802.11b (Wi-Fi) laptops, PDAs and other devices. Patrons are responsible for selecting and installing security protection and current virus definitions on their devices.
Just launch your browser to establish a connection. If your device does not connect, review the configuration settings listed at the bottom of this page.
Locations
The Wi-Fi Zone can be accessed from the Reference Room, Reading Room, Mezzanine, Jaffin Room, Scott Room and Library Plaza.

Configuration Settings
In most instances, wireless devices will automatically detect the Library’s Wireless Zone and configure themselves to use the system. If your device does not connect right away, please try the following:
Make sure your wireless network adapter has been properly installed according to manufacturer instructions
For Windows 2000 and XP
- From Control Panel select Network & Dial-up Connections or Network & internet Connections>Internet Connections.
- Right-click on Wireless Network Connection or Local Area Connection and click Proprieties.
- Locate the Internet TCP/IP protocol and get into its Properties. If more than one TCP/IP protocol is listed, look for the one associated with you wireless adapter.
- Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server automatically.
For XP
- Right click on Wireless Network Connection
- Select View Available Wireless Networks.
- Select the name of the wireless network available at the library and click Connect.
Internet Explorer Tips (Please note that depending on your version of software, there may be variations in the procedures.)
- From Control Panel select Internet Options>Connections tab
- IF you also have a dial-up connection it should not be set to “Always dial my default connection.”
- LAN Settings should be Automatically Detect Settings and leave the Proxy server settings blank.
Macintosh Network settings
OS 8 & 9
- Select Apple Menu>Control Panel>TCP/IP
- Connect via “AirPort” or other wireless Ethernet
- Configure Using DHCP Server
- Leave Name Server and Additional Search domains blank
OS X
- Select Apple>Menu>System Preferences>Network button
- Select TCP/IP tab and configure Using DHCP
- Above the TCP/IP tab, you may need to Configure via “AirPort” or other wireless Ethernet
- Leave Domain Name Servers and Search Domains blank
