SCARSDALE LIBRARY LOFT AT SUPPLY FIELD
The Scarsdale Public Library at 54 Olmsted Road is closed for renovation as part of the library’s Capital Campaign.
The Library Loft, our temporary space at Supply Field (244 Heathcote Road) is open!
Letter from the Director
The Scarsdale Public Library has moved its operations to Library Loft at Supply Field, the temporary facility that will house library services while the Olmsted Road library is closed for renovation for the next 18 months-2 years. . Some services and programs will continue at the smaller space, with hours reduced at times to accommodate parking for field users. Some programs will be held at other sites — information on this will come soon in another e-blast. A team of Village professionals, consultants and community leaders remains focused on the Library’s improvement project that will transform our library for generations to come. Our dream to modernize this facility is about to be realized! We will be improving our flexibility, our technology and will be fully accessible to all users. I am grateful for the support from this community helping us remain your central hub for lifelong learning.
Scarsdale’s Library Temporary Location
Library Loft at Supply Field is located at 244 Heathcote Road, just north of the ‘5 Corners’ intersection. Library space is on the 2nd floor of the beige building behind the fields. There is an elevator. Hours and services are limited – click here – to learn more.
Why does Scarsdale need a temporary space during construction?
Several reasons. 1) We can serve our patrons. Though it is a smaller space with reduced hours, we can settle into a cozy, clean place where patrons can use computers, find resources and have a children’s room. 2) It is a condition of membership in the Westch- ester Library System (WLS) that we have a physical location during construction. Membership in the WLS allows us to use any public library in Westchester, reserve books, receive IT support and take advantage of many other services offered by the organization. 3) Renovation of the Supply Field space is supported by a $500,000 grant secured by Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, and that space can be used by the Village for other needs after the Library moves out.
What programs will be offered during construction?
These programs will be offered at various venues in Scarsdale – click here – to see our full calendar of events.
What else can I expect?
- Library Loft will have wifi and 3 public use computers, and staff to assist, as usual.
- We plan to have book drops available at various locations throughout town to make returning materials more convenient.
- Friends of the Library plans to expand our homebound delivery service to bring materials to our residents who have difficulty getting to the library.
- Books may be reserved online, over the phone or in person from other libraries and picked up at the Library Loft.
- Books can be returned at any public library in Westchester.
- We are redesigning our website so that it will become a virtual library, with many online resources readily available for children and adults.
