2025 Scarsdale Middle School Summer Reading at SPL

For teens going into Scarsdale Middle School (SMS) in Grades 6 through 8 in the upcoming 2025-2026 school year:

To support students needing to complete Scarsdale Middle School’s required summer reading for:

  • Butler 6, 7, and 8;
  • Cooper 6, 7, and 8;
  • Fountain 6, 7, and 8;
  • Popham 6, 7, and 8; and
  • CHOICE 7 and 8,

Scarsdale Public Library's Teen Room keeps a printed reference copy beneath the television of the required and recommended SMS Summer Reading Lists from teachers as well as a scannable QR code for online viewing of the lists. (See Teen Room binder for physical copy. Click here to view the required reading grid from SMS. Click here to view the companion lists of recommended books from SMS.)

During summer, SPL houses its readily available copies of the REQUIRED books beneath the Teen Room TV, a shelving location defined in our catalog as the "Summer Reading" section.

The map below shows the Teen Room encased by a red circle, as well as a black pin centered on the east wall where the REQUIRED books are shelved just beneath the television.

For RECOMMENDED items, please use our catalog (https://scarsdale.aspendiscovery.org) to locate them and/or request them via our county-wide holds system. Library staff are available to assist you if you have yet to familiarize yourself with our catalog. PRO TIP: Teens should place holds as soon as possible on any items with waiting lists to make sure they will have time to finish their summer reading before summer gives way to back-to-school season. For classics or other items with many editions in the catalog, be sure to place your hold request on the catalog record with the most available copies -OR- ask a librarian to place the hold for you using the “Group Formats/Editions” checkbox. Remember that once holds arrive, they are held for you for one week. You may suspend a hold if you know it will arrive while you are out of town: this holds your place in line for when you reactivate the hold.

To make the most of (i.e., win prizes for) the reading you do this summer, consider registering for the 2025 teen summer reading challenge in the Beanstack app or online at https://scarsdalelibrary.beanstack.com.
