Shubh Deepavali! May your Diwali be full of fun and light!
Join us in the Scott Room for an evening of food, dance, and camaraderie in celebration of Diwali. You will learn something of the significance of this meaningful holiday celebrated by more than one billion people around the world. The celebrations begin with a performance of classical Indian dance. Participants will have the opportunity to join in a diya (a traditional earthenware lamp) painting craft. And there will be delicious Indian snacks along the way.
Traditional Indian attire is welcome but not mandatory.
About the presenters
Minoo Bhatia is the founder of Kamcrest Education which strives to create dialogue, discussion and cultural engagement in the field of education. Kamcrest facilitates training sessions and programs to equip educators with the skills they need to thrive as well as broadening their horizons in an interconnected world. Ms. Bhatia has benefited from the best of both the Indian and American education systems. She has both a Bachelors and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to K-12 teaching roles, Ms. Bhatia has served as Director of an IT vocational training school where adult learners obtained certifications and pursued career changes into the Information Technology field.
Nalini Rau, PhD, is the founder of Natya Anubhava Dance Academy which has taught hundreds of students the art forms of Bharatanatyam, a classical style of Indian dance originating in Tamil Nadu. Dr. Rau has received numerous accolades as both a choreographer and a performer in the United States and India. She works to promote greater mutual understanding and harmony through various recitals and workshops around the Westchester community. Natya Anubhava Dance Academy has operated in Elmsford, NY for more than 20 years.
