Program Description

Event Details

Passage To Sweden tells the lesser-known story of events occurring in Scandinavia and Budapest during WWII where, due to quirks of history and geography, the people of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden all had very different experiences. Focusing on the heroic actions of ordinary people who saved the lives of thousands of Jews and fellow countrymen, special attention is paid to the Norwegian resistance, the citizens of Denmark, the Swedish Red Cross, Raoul Wallenberg, and Count Folke Bernadotte. In a world of great division and growing anti-semitism, Passage to Sweden is a salute to a rare bright spot of decency, humanity, and courage during the darkest of times.

After the film, we will be joined by director Suzannah Warlick and author Chana Sharfstein - the latter of whom features prominently in the documentary and ran tour groups to Sweden from Westchester for many years - for questions and answers. Light refreshments will be served.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a hybrid program. You may attend this program either in-person at the library or online using your own device. All registrants will receive a Zoom link approximately one hour prior to the start of the program.
