Join Marcus Renna in the Scott Room for a screening and discussion of 1955 romantic comedy The Seven Year Itch. Directed by Billy Wilder, who also co-wrote the screenplay with George Axelrod, the playwright behind the 1952 play of the same name, and starring Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell, The Seven Year Itch popularized the idiom of a waning interest in monogamy after seven years of marriage.

Richard Sherman (Ewell) is a middle aged publishing executive in New York and about to travel to Maine to meet his wife Helen (Evelyn Keyes) and son Ricky when he runs into an unnamed woman (Monroe). The woman, a small-time actress and model (at one point in the film Sherman sarcastically suggests she looks like Marilyn Monroe), unknowingly fuels Sherman's fantasies of seduction and infidelity, especially after he reads a manuscript by psychologist Dr. Brubaker that all men are driven to extra-marital affairs in the seventh year of marriage.
