Celebrate Women's History Month with the Scarsdale Library

Join film historian Keith Crocker as he uncovers the behind the scene stories of one of Hollywood’s most gorgeous screen sirens, Miss Hedy Lamarr.

Austrian actress Lamarr (born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler) took the world by storm by appearing nude in the controversial 1933 German film Ecstasy. Fleeing her munitions making husband prior to the outbreak of WWII, Lamarr came to the United States and took Hollywood by storm, appearing in some of the most celebrated movies in the golden age of cinema (co-starring with Clark Gable in Boomtown and James Stewart in Come Live with Me). She peaked playing Delilah in Samson and Delilah.

What makes her even more remarkable was that she was an inventor. At the beginning of World War II, Lamarr developed a radio guidance system using frequency hopping technology for torpedoes launched by the allied armies, intended to defeat the threat of jamming by the Axis. Yet, with all the beauty and brilliance displayed by this remarkable woman, she still never understood her popularity nor her appeal. Journey with me as we pay tribute to this remarkable lady and give her all the due she deserves.

This event is a collaboration between the Scarsdale and Mamaroneck Libraries.

You will receive an email with the Zoom link approximately 1 hour before the event starts.
