Join us for an evening with authors Annabelle Gurwitch and Faith Salie as they discuss their new books.

Annabelle Gurwitch is a New York Times bestselling author, actor, and NPR commentator.  He newest book is You're Leaving When? Adventures in Downward Mobility.

Faith Salie is an Emmy Award winning contributor to CBS News Sunday Morning, a panelist on NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me..., and most recently, author of Approval Junkie: My Heartfelt (and Occasionally Inappropriate) Quest to Please Just About Everyone, and Ultimately Myself.

YOU'RE LEAVING WHEN?
With signature sharp wit, Annabelle Gurwitch gives irreverent and empathetic voice to a generation hurtling into their next chapter with no safety net and proves that our no-frills new normal doesn't mean a deficit of humor.
In these essays, Gurwitch welcomes a housing-insecure young couple and a bunny rabbit into her home. The mother of a college student in recovery who sheds the gender binary, she relearns to parent, one pronoun at a time. She wades into the dating pool in a Miss Havisham-inspired line of lingerie and flunks the magic of tidying up.
Gurwitch offers stories of resilience, adaptability, low-rent redemption, and the kindness of strangers. Even in a muted Zoom.

“Annabelle Gurwich is so funny that, even when bad things happen, she writes about them in a brilliantly entertaining way.” —Dave Barry

"Everyone needs a friend to guide them through the American middle class in decline, and you couldn't do better than Annabelle Gurwitch. She is sharp-eyed, un-foolable, and hilarious." —Barbara Ehrenreich

APPROVAL JUNKIE
Faith Salie has done it all in the name of validation. Whether she’s trying to impress her parents with a perfect GPA, undergoing an exorcism to save her toxic marriage, or baking a 3D excavator cake for her son’s birthday.
In this collection of daring, honest essays, Salie shares stories from her lifelong quest for gold stars, recounting her strategy for winning (very Southern) high school beauty pageant; her struggle to pick the perfect outfit to wear to her divorce; and her difficulty falling in love again, and then conceiving, in the years following her mother’s death.

Equal parts laugh-out loud funny and poignant, Approval Junkie is one woman’s journey to realizing that seeking approval from others is more than just getting them to like you—it's challenging yourself to achieve, and survive, more than you ever thought you could.

“I absolutely loved this book. And I'm not just saying that because I want Faith Salie to like me."–Elizabeth Gilbert

“I’m going to be an enabler and give Faith Salie some pure, high-grade, unadulterated approval. Because she deserves it. This book is a hilarious and emotional look at love, career, and Faith’s mom’s pelvic floor (among other things). You will approve of it as well. “
–AJ Jacobs
