Reading as a family isn't just fun, it builds children's imaginations and vocabularies, and expands their worlds.
Here are our top three tips for reading aloud with kids!
- Read with enthusiasm! Try to capture the mood of the book, and do the voices.
- Ask "what" and "why" and "how" questions as you read. "What do you think will happen next?"; "Why do you think the character did that?"; "How do you think the story will end?"
- Don't be afraid to cut the book short! Sometimes it's better to have a good experience reading only half a book or a chapter, than a frustrating experience trying to finish when your child just isn't in the mood.
