KIDS CRAFTS WITH KAREN- LION PUPPET

This lion puppet is ready to roar!!! He’s the king of the jungle after all.

What you need: Orange paper 8 1/2-11, google eyes, markers, scissors and a glue stick

Print out the template on orange paper unless you would like to color the mane, paws and ears, then use white paper. Cut them out and color.

KIDS CRAFTS WITH KAREN-POP-UP PALS

Hello Crafters! This week we will make some fun pop-ups-a bear, mouse and bunny.

You will need: print out 2 copies of template, markers or coloring pencils, scissors, glue.

Color and cut out the template pattern.

Fold it accordion style, back and forth on the lines below the animal.

Glue only the animals body and the cup at the bottom together leaving the folded parts loose.

Enjoy!

KIDS CRAFTS WITH KAREN- BUTTERFLIES

Butterflies are out in abundance this time of year. We see them in the garden or soaring through the air. Let’s make one of our own.

You will need: 3 colors of tissue paper, scissors, 1 pipe cleaner, a ruler and a pencil.

Choose three colors and lay them flat one on top of the other. Measure 5 inches from the side and the top to make a square and cut it out.

Fold about a half inch and again and again like an accordion as shown. Then fold in half and cut a round corner.

Make it with Me… SLIME!

Who doesn’t love slime?! Well… maybe your parents. But if you tell them that there’s science at the core of creating slime they might let you go for it. This video will prepare you for the basics of slime making.

Get creative, and be sure to show us what you make with #ScarsdaleLibrary and #SPLkids

KIDS CRAFTS WITH KAREN- PUFFY WREATH

Let’s decorate! Wreaths are a great decoration for your door or for anywhere you would like to hang some color.

You will need: 1 paper plate, tissue paper-various colors of your choice, scissors, single hole punch a

nd tape.

Cut out the center of your plate. Punch holes in the circle as shown. The more holes you punch the fluffier your wreath will be. (If you don’t have a hole punch, please ask a grownup for help punching holes with a scissor or pencil. Be careful!)

KIDS CRAFTS-APPLE SURPRISE!

Somebody has made a home in an apple. I wonder if you can guess who?

You will need: a printout of the template, paper towel roll, 2 red cupcake liners or white cupcake liners and red paint, white paper, markers, scissors and a glue stick.

Cut the paper towel roll into thirds, or to the height you would like your apple to be. Place it on the white paper and glue it down. Roll the paper around the paper towel roll piece and then glue it down again to seal it.

KIDS CRAFTS WITH KAREN-BLAST BACK TO SCHOOL

If you are distance learning, or hybrid schooling chances are you will need a pencil.  So why not make it fun!

This pencil topper rocket will help you blast back to school in style!

You will need: a printout of the template, markers, scissors, glue stick and a pencil.

Print the template, color and cut out two rockets. Glue around the edges leaving the center open for the pencil to pop in.

Happy Crafting!

Kids Crafts with Karen-Light up the night!

Small flashes of light flicker in the dark summer sky. Lightning bugs are luminescent, they have the ability to create their own light in yellow, orange or green. This week we will create our own version of these winged beetles.

KIDS CRAFTS WITH KAREN- FLASHLIGHT

Hello Crafters! Today’s craft is a little different from what we have been doing. We are going to use acrylic paints so be sure to protect your table as it could get messy. Ok? Let’s go!

You will need: acrylic paint (I used green, brown, yellow, white and black), paintbrush, sponge brush, 9.5 x 11.5 clear plastic storage bag, dark blue or black paper cut to size of bag, print out of flashlight.

Kids Crafts with Karen- Fantastic Fireworks!

These fireworks are safe but fun and fancy. I hope you enjoy making them. Happy Fourth of July!

What you will need: 3 pieces of paper 6″ x 11 (color of your choice-I used red, white and blue); scissors and tape.

Fold the paper in half and cut slits in it until you are about a half inch from the bottom. The strips should be about a 1/4″ or so. You don’t have to measure you can just eyeball it . Do this for all 3 papers.

Stack the papers on top of each other and roll them up.

KIDS CRAFTS WITH KAREN- BUGGY RING BLING

This week's craft is Buggy Ring Bling!

You will need: 8 1/2 x 11 paper, colors of your choice. (I used pink and black), scissors, glue stick, ruler, marker.

Download the pattern which consists of a rounded rectangle 2″ x 4″, 2 strips of paper 3/4″ x 8″; two strips 1/4″ x 4″; two strips 1/4″ x 1″ and the bug body and face.

KIDS CRAFTS WITH KAREN- CRAFTY BEAR

With the recent bear sightings I thought a craft about a bear would be timely. This bear “climbs” up and down a tree.

You will need 8 1/2 x 11 paper, one white and one green. A piece of green tissue paper. An empty paper towel roll. Glue stick and tape.

Print out this bear template and color and cut out two. Glue a small part of them together as shown.
